Semi-Professional Troupe Membership
Students who exhibit extraordinary discipline and dedication to learning Oriental Dance may be invited to join Alexia's semi-professional dance troupe, the Alexandria Dancers. Troupe membership is a privilege, and requires that each member be willing to meet all performance standards, rehearsal requirements, and costuming requirements outlined by Alexia.Troupe members are required to register for Tuesday evening classeseach session, and must be willing to attend additional rehearsals prior to public performances. Additionally, troupe members are expected to rehearse and drill movements and choreographies on their own, outside of class time. Participation in the annual Alexia Productions "Egyptian Nights" theatrical production is at the sole discretion of the director, and will depend upon a student's ability to perform choreographies according to Alexia's strict standards, as well as a student's conduct, ethics, and discipline. participation indicates that you are ready to take your dance education to the next level.
The Alexandria Dancers semi-professional troupe is more than a student group--it is a dance family. Each member realizes her responsibility to the team and to her dance sisters. Troupe activities include the well-known Alexia Productions annual theatrical production, "Egyptian Nights"; community performances (e.g. Rossini Festival, Foothills Fall Festival, Healthy Living Exposition, etc...); charity events (e.g. World's Biggest Blog Party); private parties (e.g. Cookeville Prom); out-of-town guest appearances (e.g. Chattanooga Bellydance Show, Orlando Cedars of Lebanon restaurant performance); and south-wide workshop attendance. Troupe members also meet regularly outside of class for social events (annual Christmas tea, baby showers, bridal showers, birthday parties, etc...).
Additional Performance Opportunities
Students who register for Alexia's specialty classes, offered on Saturdays throughout the year, may be invited to perform the choreography for which they have registered in the annual "Egyptian Nights" theatrical show. Invitations to perform these specialty choreographies are not synonymous with invitations to join the Alexandria Dancers semi-professional troupe. This policy is intended to allow individuals to perform in "Egyptian Nights" who may not be able to commit to full participation in the dance troupe due to a lack of time or financial resources. Not all students who register for the specialty classes will be invited to perform--only those who exhibit extraordinary progression, and who indicate a willingness to commit time and resources to rehearsals for the "Egyptian Nights" show. Additionally, those individuals will not perform in other Alexandria Dancers troupe events like Rossini Festival, paid club performances, or private parties.
